Bespoke Seascape Commissions - Bringing Memories to Life Through Texture

I accept a small number of commissions each quarter, working closely with collectors to create bespoke textured seascapes that honour meaningful places and moments. Each piece is shaped slowly and intentionally through surface, material and tactile depth - inviting you into presence every time you approach it.

Through layering repurposed fabrics, found shoreline materials and sculptural surface detail, I aim to translate memory, place and emotion into a truly one-of-a-kind work that doesn’t just depict a scene but feels like one.

“We love our collection of paintings so much, they bring back so many happy memories of holidays and cherished times. I just love the texture, it makes them feel so immersive..” L. Richards

Commissions take many forms — from deeply personal keepsakes to statement pieces designed for professional and commercial spaces.

My commission work is designed for people who are drawn to the ocean, texture and story, and who want to live with a piece of art that holds personal meaning and brings cherished memories to life.

Types of Commissions I Create:

Personal & Private Spaces

  • Home & Living Spaces: Bespoke pieces created around treasured memories — anniversaries, special places, family moments.

  • Gifts that Last: Unique, deeply personal works that become heirlooms.

Professional & Commercial Spaces

  • Home Offices & Workspaces: Designed to elevate your environment, support focus, and reflect your values.

  • Client-Facing Areas: Statement pieces that spark conversation and lift the feel of a reception, boardroom, or studio.

  • Hospitality & Interiors: Custom seascapes tailored to fit design schemes and brand atmospheres.

BEGIN YOUR BESPOKE EXPERIENCE

Each commission begins with a conversation.

I take time to understand the place, memory or feeling you want the piece to hold, alongside how it will live within your space.

Included in Every Commission:

• Bespoke design and consultation
• Regular progress updates (photos/video)
• Signed Collector’s Note
• Tailored packaging and delivery support

Every piece is created with the same care and restraint as my studio practice, ensuring the work feels timeless, personal and quietly powerful.

BEGIN YOUR CUSTOM PIECE

People commission my work for different reasons and spaces.

Some are marking meaningful life moments or favourite coastal places. Others are creating a sense of calm and identity within a workspace, office or client-facing environment such as designers and developers seeking tailored installations.

Every commission is approached with the same care — listening closely to the space, the story, and how the artwork will be experienced day to day.

Some examples of commissions I have created recently:

  • “I Do” Waves: A drone‑captured wedding moment translated into sweeping, sculptural seascapes textured with wedding-dress lace.

  • Childhood Beachscape: Layered sand and playful textiles transformed a family beach into a childhood memory on canvas.

  • Sunset + Dress Fragment: A dress remnant woven into sunset hues across surf-sprayed fibres.

  • Surfers Paradise: Offcuts of surfboard fibreglass sculpted into a breaking wave, using an old, retired surfboard as the canvas.

  • Hospitality Space: Artwork commissioned as part of a wider investment in the look, feel and identity of the restaurant and hotel space.

Commissioned Repurposed Surfboard Piece

"I had seen prints of Gemma’s work in Cornwall and always loved her style, so my husband commissioned a full size piece of her work illustrating Mawgan Porth beach.  This is now installed in our new extension where it looks absolutely stunning - I cannot stop looking at the detail and texture of the waves which are completely absorbing.  Thank you Gemma!" “Placing a commission with Gemma couldn't have been easier. She takes you through the process, explaining each step, and gets to know your desired beach scene. You can steer the mood of the finished piece, or she will guide you. Gemma has captured my beach perfectly..the result is stunning. I'm so thrilled to have my happy place on my lounge wall.”

About the Artist

Gemma Lessinger is a Cornwall-based artist celebrated for her richly textured seascapes, crafted using repurposed materials gathered from the coast—including surfboard fiberglass, ghost fishing nets, and sand. Drawing on her background in fashion, she also weaves pre-loved fabrics and discarded clothing into her process, transforming them into tactile, abstract landscapes that echo the rhythm and emotion of the sea.
