“This beach for me brings back so many fun memories of rock pooling at low tide, even then the shadows of the rock formations below the waters surface glimmer and shine through. Something I really wanted to focus on in the piece.” Gemma Lessinger
"Booby's Bay" captures the dynamic essence of one of North Cornwall's most captivating beaches. From her pop-up studio at The National Lobster Hatchery in Padstow, Gemma Lessinger was inspired by the ever-changing tides and rugged coastline. This piece, crafted on a 30cm x 30cm wood board, utilises acrylic paint combined with reclaimed, upcycled materials—such as local sand, end of line tea bag paper, and surfboard fibreglass offcuts—to bring the scene to life. The rocks and wave formations are sculpted using fragments of fishing rope washed up on the estuary, finely cut up and mixed through the paint, Gemma has meticulously sculpted the peak and alcoves to represent the shoreline from the birds eye view.
Framed in a 47cm x 47cm white handcrafted panel frame by a local artisan.
