‘Between the Banks – Crantock’ Original Textured Painting

£600.00

“Between the Banks” captures Crantock Beach at mid to low tide, when sandbanks rise out of the water and a stream begins to wind between them, running from the tide line across the beach towards the Gannel estuary.

Crantock is my regular sea swim spot, and as the tide drops the beach changes completely. Golden sandbanks appear, and a clear turquoise stream cuts its way between them, a whole new landscape that’s there for a few hours before the sea returns to cover it. This piece focuses on one of those banks and the start of the stream, with the waves still rolling in just beyond.

The sandbanks are crafted from hessian sack, its frayed edges shaping the banks as they meet the water. The sea and the stream are layered with tea bag paper and sand mixed into the paint, giving the water a subtle, shifting texture, and the wave is made from rope I found washed up on the beach, cut up and mixed into the acrylic.

See more of Crantock in Crantock Sunset, and beneath the surface in the Swim Notes trio.
