'Waves For Change' Original Textured Painting
This piece is part of a duo created with a very unique repurposed material, ghost fishing net. This painting along with its partner were created in collaboration with fellow Newquay based business ‘Waterhaul’ who work tirelessly to protect our oceans. They collect ghost fishing net from across the Cornish coast and turn it into material which can then be used to make their high quality, elegant sunglasses with a purpose. They are an inspirational business and I was honoured to work with them.
Working with them I created this piece using their repurposed ghost net material to build the texture in the painting.
The fibrous pieces clearly visible in the ocean water, they pose as a stark reminder that plastics and ghost netting just like this are polluting our beautiful seas, urging the viewer to help to be part of the change. By businesses learning to repurpose and reuse waste like this we are protecting our oceans for generations to come.
