'Porthmeor Shoreline' Original Textured Painting
This piece, 'Porthmeor Shoreline' captures the momentum of the swell rolling in a Porthmeor beach, one of the best surf spot in the St Ives area. Focusing on the right side of the beach, with the rocky cliffs just in show, the texture in these rocks has been built up using sand and plastic found washed up on the shoreline. The shoreline on the left of the piece is made from sand from the beach, giving a beautiful textured, almost shimmering sand effect.
As with all of this collection, the white water detail has been built up using offcuts of fibreglass, a by-product of surfboard manufacturing and given to Gemma by Newquay based surfboard shaper Rochfort Customs. These offcuts are non recyclable so by Gemma re-purposing them into her art, she is helping the shaper be one step closer to being zero waste.
65cm x 95cm canvas - framed with a 5cm deep, white wood tray frame
