‘Fistral Sunset’ Original Textured Painting

£250.00

“Fistral Sunset” captures Newquay’s best-known surf beach at the end of the day, as a wave breaks straight across the bay and the evening sky turns the water red and gold.

Fistral faces west, so as the sun goes down the whole beach lights up. The last surfers paddle out, the waves turn to fire as they break, and the deep blue water below starts catching flecks of the sunset colour. This small piece holds that moment, with the wave as a bright line between the glowing sky and the darkening sea.

The red and gold sunset reflection is made from an old silk dress, its sheen shifting with the light. The deep ocean is cut from a pair of vintage Levi’s jeans, flecked with sunset colours, and the breaking wave is sculpted from surfboard fibreglass offcuts, rising off the surface just as Fistral’s waves stand up before they break.

Fistral Sunset is a sister piece to Crantock Sunset. Fistral and Crantock sit either side of Pentire headland, and the two paintings look beautiful hung side by side. See more Fistral sunsets in Tide of Gold and Afterglow.
