Pushing the boundaries of 3D texture, this is one of my deepest waves to date — so much so you can almost hear it crashing into the shore.
I'm fascinated by the momentum of the ocean, the sheer power it holds in its swells. This piece was inspired by a winter surge at Polzeath, watching from the clifftop above as the huge waves came rolling in — terrifying yet mesmerising.
I wanted to really test how extreme I could sculpt the wave on this small canvas, using repurposed fibreglass offcuts from a surfboard shaper in Newquay, sculpting layer upon layer of the upcycled material into the powerful wave crest.
