‘Estuary Views III – Padstow to Rock’ Original Textured Painting
10% of the sale of this piece will be donated to The National Lobster Hatchery in Padstow to support their ocean conservation work.
Created during my pop-up studio at The National Lobster Hatchery in Padstow, “Estuary Views III” captures the Camel Estuary at low tide, when the water draws back between Padstow and Rock and the great golden sandbanks are revealed.
From above, low tide turns the estuary into a landscape of its own. A wide bank of sand sweeps across the water, a small stream trickles through it back towards the channel, and two boats wait on their moorings in the deep turquoise water for the tide to turn and the ferry to start crossing to Rock again.
Crafted on a 30cm x 30cm wood board, this piece combines acrylics with reclaimed, upcycled materials, including local sand, end-of-line tea bag paper from a local tea maker and surfboard fibreglass offcuts. The sand texture builds up the sandbank, so it catches the light just as the real one does when the water falls away.
Estuary Views III is the third of three paintings, each showing a different view of the Camel Estuary. Each one is an original piece in its own right, and together they make a beautiful set across a wall. See Estuary Views I and Estuary Views II.
