'Balance of Opposites' Original Textured Painting

£3,500.00

(If you are viewing this piece at The National Lobster Hatchery in Padstow, you can purchase the piece via this page - Gemma will then arrange for shipping directly to you)

This painting signifies Gemma's conflicting feelings towards the ocean, on one hand having a deep fear of the turbulent swells and powerful momentum. On the other wanting to be enveloped in its still, turquoise lagoon like waters.

Gemma created this piece as a tale of two halves, with the top part portraying that fear, the powerful breaking waves rolling in to shore. Then the bottom half her deep love for being submerged in the calm, tropical like waters.

In the breaking waves you can see Gemma has used repurposed fibreglass offcuts from a surfboard shaper in Newquay, sculpting the material into the powerful wave crests.

To signify the conflicting feelings, the two opposing conditions in the ocean, Gemma wanted to add a contrasting element, something striking yet subtle, a further contradiction. She has therefore used a bold neon pink which builds from underneath the 3D texture of the wave, flowing out gently into the turquoise water below.

90cm x 75cm x 5cm canvas

Framed - white wood tray frame
