Salt & Canvas: My New Studio Home!

I’m finally in!!
After months of juggling paint, planning, packing, and a whole lot of trust in the process, I’m writing this from inside my new studio at Salt & Canvas – Unit 11 Agweres, Lanteague Studios, Scotland Rd, Zelah, Truro TR4 9JG.

Walking into this space for the first time as “my new workspace” felt like exhaling after holding my breath for far too long. It’s light, open, calm, and exactly the kind of environment I’ve been craving — a place where creativity doesn’t have to fight for space.

Why this space matters

Creating alone can be deeply rewarding, but also painfully solitary. I’ve been missing conversation, collaboration, and the buzz that comes from sharing ideas.
So this studio is more than a bigger space and good lighting. It’s a deliberate shift toward connection — with the work, with the sea that inspires everything I do, and with other creatives. I’m sharing the space with Bella, and that alone already feels like a subtle but much-needed recalibration.

A fresh chapter

Salt & Canvas is where all the strands of my world quietly pull together — the textural seascapes, the commissions infused with meaningful materials, the creative experiences, the sustainability thread, the ocean stories. This space gives me room to breathe into all of it.

I’ve filled the studio with the things that anchor me: materials gathered from Cornish beaches, repurposed fabrics from past collections, brushes that still hold grains of sand, sketches of new ideas I’m not ready to show the world yet, and pieces from upcoming collections. Every corner feels intentional — calm, tactile, and honest.

What you’ll find here

Over the next few months, Salt & Canvas will become:

  • A working studio where I create original paintings and bespoke commissions - still having my studio at home to work really messily on the first base layers!

  • A space to view new collections in person

  • A calm retreat for my smaller and 1:1 creative experiences

  • A seasonal space for gifting, ocean-infused pieces, and limited launches

  • A place to come and chat, plan, wander, and ask questions about commissions or creative experiences

  • And now — private evening and weekend viewings, complete with a glass of sparkling wine from Agweres, served straight from the collection downstairs. A chance to slow down, enjoy something beautiful, and experience the texture and depth of the work up close without any rush.

The opening gathering

I’m hosting an invite-only gathering to celebrate this new chapter — with mulled wine lovingly made by Agweres, plus a chance to taste their wine collection (and pick up bottles for Christmas gifting if you like).

If you’d like to come, email hello@gemmalessinger.com and I’ll send you the details.

Come see where the magic happens

If you’ve been curious about a commission…
If you want to feel the texture in person…
If you’re drawn to the ocean and want a piece that feels like your own shoreline…
Or if you simply want to step into a space designed to make you breathe out — Salt & Canvas is open.

Drop me an email to arrange a visit — whether that’s during studio hours or for a slower, more intimate private viewing with a glass of something special.
There’s a lot unfolding in here already, and I can’t wait to share it with you.

Gemma
