Small Art, Big Impact: Why My Mini Seascape Paintings Deserve a Place in Your Home
Who says you need a huge wall to make a statement with art?
Sometimes the smallest pieces can bring the biggest sense of joy.
I've always believed that art should be something we live with, not just something we admire from a distance. It should make us feel something. Remind us of a place we love, a memory we treasure, or simply give us a little moment of calm in a busy day.
And that's exactly why I love creating my Mini Art Drop collection.
These little original seascape paintings might only measure 10cm x 10cm, but they're full of the same colour, movement and intricate textures that you'll find in my larger artworks. They're small pieces of the ocean, ready to find their own special place in your home.
Original Art Doesn't Have to Be Large or Expensive
One of the things I love most about my mini paintings is that they offer a more affordable way to own a piece of original art.
Each one is individually created by me in my Cornwall studio, using the same approach to colour, texture and materials that defines my larger seascapes.
These aren't prints or reproductions. They're real, original paintings, each with its own character and tiny details.
For someone who has always wanted to own an original piece of art but hasn't been ready to invest in a larger painting, they're a lovely place to begin.
And for existing collectors, they're a wonderful way to add another little piece of the coastline to a growing collection.
Small Paintings for Every Space
At just 10cm x 10cm, these miniature coastal artworks are incredibly versatile.
They don't need a huge blank wall or an entire room designed around them.
A little seascape can look beautiful on a bedside table, a bookshelf, a small section of hallway wall, or tucked into a cosy reading corner.
They're also perfect for those often-forgotten spaces. The little wall beside a doorway, a nook in a kitchen, or that narrow section of wall that never quite feels big enough for a traditional painting.
And because each one captures the colours and atmosphere of the ocean, they bring a lovely sense of calm and connection to even the smallest spaces.
Sometimes it's those unexpected little corners that become our favourites.
Create Your Own Coastal Gallery Wall
Now, here's where I think these little paintings become really exciting.
They look absolutely beautiful displayed together.
Rather than hanging just one mini painting, imagine a collection of three, six or even nine, arranged together to create your own miniature gallery wall.
Each painting has its own personality, but when displayed as a collection, they create something entirely new.
The different shades of ocean blues, turquoise waters, sandy shorelines and breaking waves begin to flow together, almost like looking at different moments along the coastline.
And because they're all the same 10cm x 10cm size, it's easy to create a cohesive display.
Three Ways to Style a Mini Art Gallery Wall
1. The Perfect Trio
Choose three mini paintings with complementary colours and display them in a horizontal or vertical row.
This works beautifully above a small console table, beside a doorway or in a narrow hallway.
2. The Six-Piece Collection
Arrange six paintings in two rows of three, keeping the spacing between each piece consistent.
The result is a lovely contemporary coastal display that feels considered without being overly formal.
3. The Nine-Piece Gallery Wall
For something with a little more impact, create a grid of nine paintings in three rows of three.
I particularly love this idea because the paintings become one larger composition, while each individual piece still has its own story.
Try combining different ocean scenes and shades, allowing the colours and textures to connect across the collection.
It's a beautiful way to create a statement artwork that's completely personal to you.
A Thoughtful Gift for Someone Who Loves the Ocean
My mini paintings also make lovely gifts.
Perhaps it's for someone who grew up by the sea, a friend who has moved away from Cornwall, or someone who simply feels happiest with salty air in their lungs and sand between their toes.
Giving someone a piece of original coastal art feels a little different from buying something mass-produced.
You're giving them something created by hand. Something with its own story.
And because they're small, they're easy to find a special place for, whether that's in a first home, a city apartment or a little cottage by the sea.
They make wonderful gifts for birthdays, Christmas, housewarmings, or simply because someone deserves a little reminder of the ocean.
Tiny Paintings, The Same Love and Detail
Although my mini paintings are much smaller than my larger original seascapes, the creative process comes from exactly the same place.
I'm still inspired by the ever-changing Cornish coastline, the colours of the water, the movement of the tides and those beautiful moments that make you stop and look.
I still work with layers, colour and texture to capture the feeling of being beside the sea.
And perhaps that's what I love most about them.
They remind me that art doesn't have to be grand in scale to mean something.
Sometimes all it takes is a tiny glimpse of the ocean to transport you somewhere you love.
Start with one, find the perfect pair, or build your own collection over time.
Because beautiful art doesn't need a big space. It just needs somewhere to belong.

Frequently Asked Questions
How big are your mini seascape paintings?
Each mini painting measures 10cm x 10cm. They’re small enough to fit on a shelf, bedside table or a little stretch of wall, but they’re still full of the texture and colour of my larger work.
Are these original paintings or prints?
They’re completely original. Each one is made by hand in my Cornwall studio, and no two are the same. When one sells, it’s gone.
How much do the mini paintings cost?
Each original mini painting is £70. It’s a lovely, more affordable way to own a piece of original art, or to add to a collection you already have.
What materials do you use?
Alongside layers of paint, I build texture with vintage fabrics, upcycled offcuts and found materials. Using what might otherwise be thrown away is a big part of my practice. It also means every piece has its own little details you’ll only notice up close.
Which Cornish beaches do they show?
The collection is inspired by places along the north Cornwall coast I love. These include Fistral, Watergate Bay, Bedruthan Steps, Holywell, Trevone, Polzeath, Constantine Bay and Perranporth.
Do the mini paintings come framed, and how do I display them?
They come unframed and can be hung directly as they are. They are painted onto wood blocks which can be hung from a nail or picture hook. They look lovely propped on a shelf or hung in small groups on the wall. They also look great framed, which you can do with a framer near you, or if you would like to discuss they being framed by my local framer for an additional charge, just email hello@gemmalessinger.com before you order.
How many should I buy for a mini gallery wall?
Three, six or nine all work beautifully. Because every piece is the same size, they’re easy to arrange in a row or a neat grid. Keep the gaps between them even (around 5cm works well), and mix different shades of blue, turquoise and sand so the colours flow across the whole display.
Do they make good gifts?
Yes. They’re one of my favourite things to send to someone who loves the sea, or who has moved away from Cornwall and misses it. Gift wrapping or a handwritten note is available. For Christmas, please order by 12th December to allow time for delivery. You can find all delivery details on my Delivery page.
What happens if the one I love has sold out?
Because each painting is a one-off, sold pieces won’t be repeated exactly. I do add new minis to the collection from time to time. To hear first about any new additions sign up to my newsletter, or follow my Instagram @gemmalessingerart
Can I commission a mini painting of a specific beach?
If there’s a stretch of coastline that means something special to you, I’d love to hear about it. Take a look at my Commissions page or get in touch.
