Find Your Favourite Cornwall Beach in Art: A Guide to Coastal Paintings & Prints

There are some places that never really leave us.

A favourite beach becomes part of our story. It might be where you learnt to surf, spent endless summer holidays with your family, watched the sunset after a difficult week, or simply found a little peace when life felt overwhelming.

As an artist, those are the places I'm most drawn to paint.

People often ask me how I choose the locations for my work. The truth is, I don't choose them because they're famous or because they'll make a beautiful painting. I choose them because of how they feel.

When I stand on a shoreline, camera in hand, I'm not just recording the view. I'm absorbing the movement of the tide, the changing light, the textures beneath my feet and the memories that place holds. Those experiences become woven into every layer of texture and every piece of textile within the finished artwork.

So whether you're looking for an original painting, a print, or a meaningful gift, here's a guide to some of Cornwall's most loved beaches—and the artwork inspired by them.

‘Fistral Blues’ Textured Painting of swell at Fistral, Newquay.

Fistral Beach, Newquay

For those who love energy, movement and the surf lifestyle

Few beaches in Cornwall have the energy of Fistral.

It's constantly changing. Powerful swell, rolling lines of white water, surfers waiting patiently beyond the break and golden evening light reflecting across the ocean.

Having spent many years working in the surf industry and living in Newquay, Fistral has been part of my story for a long time. Every visit offers something different, and that's exactly what I try to capture in my artwork - not a frozen moment, but the feeling of being there.

Polzeath

For family memories and first surf lessons

Ask someone about Polzeath and they'll usually smile.

For many people, it's where they learnt to surf, spent childhood summers, or introduced their own children to the sea for the very first time.

It's a beach full of happy memories, and that's something I always try to reflect in the warmth and movement of each painting.

If Polzeath holds a special place in your heart, you may love:

Crantock Beach

For peaceful mornings and hidden corners

Crantock has a quieter rhythm.

The winding Gannel Estuary, rolling sand dunes and sheltered corners create an atmosphere that's completely different from Cornwall's busier surf beaches.

It's one of those places where time seems to slow down.

Many people tell me they can almost hear the water when they see my Crantock pieces—and that's exactly the feeling I hope to create.

Textured painting of Carbis Bay in St ives, Cornwall

‘Beach Breaks in the Bay at Carbis Bay’ Original painting.

Carbis Bay, St Ives

For turquoise water and moments of calm

Carbis Bay has a completely different character to many of Cornwall's north coast beaches.

Known for its crystal-clear turquoise water and sheltered bay, it's a place that invites you to pause. Whether you're swimming in the calm sea on a summer morning, watching the changing colours dance across the water, or simply sitting on the sand with a coffee, there's a peacefulness here that's hard to find elsewhere.

It's a beach that feels restorative. The shifting blues and greens, soft curves of the shoreline and gentle movement of the water make it one of my favourite places to translate into texture and paint.

More Than a View

When people buy one of my paintings, they're rarely buying it simply because it matches their interior.

They're buying the memory.

The feeling of salt on their skin.

The excitement of their first paddleboard.

A proposal at sunset.

A family holiday they'll never forget.

A daily reminder of somewhere they feel most like themselves.

That's why I spend so much time building texture into every piece. Layers of textiles, mixed media and paint allow me to recreate not just the landscape, but the emotion of standing there.

Can't Find Your Favourite Beach?

Not every beach I've painted is currently available as an original or print, and some locations may never be reproduced as editions.

If your special place isn't here, I'd love to create something just for you.

I regularly paint bespoke shoreline commissions from beaches across Cornwall, the UK and around the world. Whether it's where you got married, learnt to surf, scattered ashes, proposed, or simply found your favourite view of the sea, we can create a piece that tells your story.

Every commission begins with a conversation about the place, your memories and what makes that coastline meaningful to you.

Because the most special artwork isn't always the one that's most famous.

It's the one that brings you home every time you look at it.
