Creativity for Mindfulness: The Art of Being
I create to be me.
Creativity, for me, has never been about producing more or pushing harder. It’s about allowing my true self to surface - gently, honestly, without force. That may sound easy but for the busy, workaholic I used to be it wasn’t!
Over time, allowing myself to embrace more and more moments of mindfulness and creativity, I’ve noticed a pattern. Creativity flows most freely when my mind is quiet. That quiet often comes through simple mindfulness practices: a slow coffee in the morning, walking in nature, time spent swimming in the ocean, moments of stillness woven into otherwise busy days.
Mindful coffee moments
These mindful moments don’t need to be long. Sometimes they last only five minutes. But they create space. And in that space, creativity naturally emerges.
I’ve come to understand creativity and mindfulness as part of a continuous, nourishing circle.
Mindfulness allows the mind to soften enough for creativity to flow. And once we’re creating - whether painting, making, or simply expressing — that act itself becomes mindful. A return to presence. A return to self.
My paintings are reflections of these moments.
Some capture a fleeting pause by the shoreline. Others hold the essence of an entire day spent immersed in nature. Each piece is an expression of what it feels like to truly be present - moments of joy, peace, wonder, and simply being.
This understanding has shaped the direction of everything I do.
At the heart of my work is Creativity for Mindfulness - a belief that creativity should be accessible, grounding, and woven into everyday life, not reserved for galleries or special occasions.
Through The Art of Being, I create paintings and experiences designed to bring mindful pauses into people’s lives. Whether that’s through a creative session, a moment of reflection, or a commissioned piece created to live in a home or workspace, the intention is always the same: to offer a moment of presence.
By integrating small or large moments of mindfulness into my own life, everything changed. Creativity became more honest. Life became more connected. And I realised that being creative isn’t about doing more — it’s about being more.
This is the art of being.
