Porthmeor in St Ives is an infamous surf spot and this piece focuses on that, with the clean breaking wave coming off the canvas at the viewer.
As with all of this collection, the white water detail has been built up using offcuts of fibreglass, a by-product of surfboard manufacturing and given to Gemma by Newquay based surfboard shaper Rochfort Customs. These offcuts are non recyclable so by Gemma re-purposing them into her art, she is helping the shaper be one step closer to being zero waste.
