Learning to Let Go: Why Getting Help Has Been the Best Decision
As the seasons shift and we move into autumn, I’ve been reflecting on the summer just gone. It was busy, beautiful, and deeply fulfilling — but also brought me one of the most important lessons I’ve learnt since becoming a full-time artist and entrepreneur.
For a long time, I thought I had to do it all myself.
I told myself that because I was new to being an artist, new to running a business, new to everything about this world, I had to prove that I could handle every single piece of it. From painting to marketing, planning events to managing finances — I thought independence equalled success.
But the truth? That mindset was holding me back.
Me embracing the freedom of finally accepting help.
Earlier this year, I started working with the wonderful Charlotte Lodey, and it was a turning point. Having someone outside of me to challenge, support, and guide made me realise that if I truly wanted my business to grow, I couldn’t keep trying to carry it all alone.
Through Charlotte, I was introduced to Harriet and the team at Grit Culture. Working with them over the past few months has been nothing short of a game-changer. They’ve helped me see my business more clearly, create space where there was once overwhelm, and given me the confidence to step into what I actually want — rather than constantly firefighting what I think I should be doing.
This summer confirmed it. Because I had support in place, I could focus on what I do best — painting, sharing my work, and connecting with people. I didn’t end the season burnt out (which would have been easy to do). Instead, I ended it inspired, energised, and with some of the most fruitful conversations of my career so far.
So yes, this is partly a thank-you to Charlotte and to Grit — but it’s also a reminder to myself (and maybe to you, if you need to hear it too): we don’t have to do it all alone.
Getting help doesn’t make you less capable, it makes you more focused. And when you’re focused, the magic has space to happen.
As autumn begins, I feel excited — not just for the creative events ahead, but for the clarity that comes from letting go, leaning on others, and stepping fully into the season ahead.
I have some REALLY exciting news to share with you over the next few weeks, I am truly believe they have come about because of this decision. Watch this space!
