Part of my collection of paintings focusing on Fistral Beach in Newquay, Cornwall. This beach is infamous for its huge waves which see surfers flock to them from all over the globe. I wanted to capture the moment that a wave is just breaking, all the power surging up behind it. The day I shot the reference photos for this piece there were only a few people out, I was so pleased to have caught the moment one lucky surfer caught the wave.

I have used sea salt and sand in the acrylic paint to build the depth in the small building wave and fine poska pen to add the fine detail in the white water.
