A commission with Gemma is a very unique service, from initial discussions through to gathering sand from your chosen location.
Gemma undertakes research trips to your chosen location and with the use of her drone, shoots various reference videos and photos. She also gathers elements such as grains of sand to incorporate into your painting, literally infusing it with your memory.
Is your subject matter outside of Cornwall? Gemma is happy to travel to your shoreline where possible, or is able to work from reference material you have.
Gemma offers her commission work on a variety of bases, from classic canvas through to re-purposed surfboards.

CANVAS BEACH ART
This canvas beach art painting, ‘Bedruthen Moments’ was commissioned by Gemma’s client as a memento of one of the couples favourite places. This piece now brings their fond, carefree memories of time spent on this beach into their home in the city. Gemma used sand from the beach to create depth and sculptural texture to the rocky cliffs and shoreline, infusing the essence of the beach into the piece. Small pieces of fibreglass offcuts from surfboard manufacturing were also used to build height for the breaking waves, making them appear to roll off the canvas towards the viewer.

HAND PAINTED SHOES
Gemma’s custom, hand painted beach art shoe commissions are a unique way to wear your beach memories. Available on a selection of canvas blocks from Vans slips ons to Converse Hi Tops, each pair tailored to your favourite shoreline or surf art scene.
This pair of Vans Slip Ons were commissioned to bring back memories of this clients favourite place, Fistral beach. To bring the peace and tranquility of the sandy shoreline to her in her busy everyday life.

SURFBOARD ART
Want something a bit different to adorn your walls? Gemma’s surfboard art pieces are not only a talking point, they also help support the charity The Wave Project UK, based in Cornwall, a surf therapy charity helping young people reduce anxiety and build resilience.
These old surfboards are re-purposed in a collaborative project with fine art printer The Logical Choice Group and surfboard shaper Rochfort Customs.
Once destined for landfill, this board has had all damage repaired by Rochfort Customs and once repaired The Logical Choice Group print one of Gemma’s unique surf art pieces onto fibreglass, which is then re-glassed onto the surfboard ‘canvas’ by Rochfort Customs.
A donation is made to the charity The Wave Project from the final sale of the board, along with Gemma’s commitment to donate toward charity Surfers Against Sewage from every one of her sales.
