My Sustainable Journey

I’m sure you all know that I am passionate about doing my bit to try and protect our planet.  The sustainability journey for me has been an eye opener, one that actually has been there since the start of my business in one way or another.  Now though, it has got me looking at all areas of my business and it’s really exciting feeling like I can help make a change.

It can be so daunting if you listen to main stream media, not knowing where to even start to try to do your bit, feeling that you can’t actually make that much of a difference.  But that is so untrue, if every one of us does our bit, all those little efforts build to be a significant change in our behaviour and consumption of goods, therefore reducing our impact on the planet.

I am continually working towards making my business as carbon neutral and sustainable as it can be, there is so much more I would like to do, but here are a few ways in which I am already helping to be part of the change:

  • My studio is powered by renewable energy

  • I use re-purposed ‘canvases’ when I can – from surfboards & skate decks to driftwood.  I even re-work old traditional cotton canvases if I find good quality vintage ones.

  • I re-purpose waste into my work – most commonly fibreglass offcuts from surfboard manufacturing.  But also other fabric scraps, even old coffee bean sacks and tea bag paper from fellow local business Cornish Tea & Coffee.

  • I use Eco acrylic paint – a more planet friendly version of the paint made from bio polymers rather than the normal nasty ones.

  • All packaging I use is either eco based or re-purposed – so if your painting comes in a box that has another company name on it that’s why!

The most exciting part of this for me is the re-purposing.  The more I keep connecting and chatting to other Cornish businesses, the more ideas I get to experiment with other waste materials.  The beauty of using them is that every piece I create is completely different, using different materials or different ratios, making your painting that little bit more unique.

If you are a business in Cornwall and have something you think I could up-cycle let me know!  I can’t guarantee everything will work but I am certainly willing to give it a try.

I do still have commission spots left for the year, so if you are looking for a unique gift for someone special why not give them the gift of art, whilst helping me do my bit to re-cycle, re-purpose and protect the planet ♻️
